We’re looking for a customer-orientated team player to join our GIS section to provide technical services related to the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS). You will create, manage and distribute GIS services to support web, desktop and mobile applications for the organization. As a self-directed and motivated individual, you will perform a wide range of technical work in the development and maintenance of GIS data, applications, procedures and standards; and in the production of mapping information within an ESRI environment. This role requires a professional approach and exceptional communication abilities in responding to customer requests and providing training to end users.
Job Qualifications
As a logical, creative, independent thinker, you will use your analytical skills to effectively develop solutions. You have an Advanced Diploma in GIS from a recognized Technical Institute, and have at least 5 years of progressive GIS experience in a Municipal or Civil environment; as well a minimum of 3 years of experience in ArcGIS Desktop applications.
Ideally you are trained in a wide range of GIS, CAD and RDBMS systems; and have experience in programming, using current programming languages and techniques. This role will require an understanding of local government GIS principles, standards, methods and techniques for data capture, retrieval, conversion and storage.
The ideal candidate has experience in the following areas:
- ESRI ArcGIS software including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Server;
- GPS and the development of data capture methods and
techniques using mobile devices;
- Autodesk Civil 3D;
- Certification as an ESRI Desktop Professional level;
- GeoCortex Essentials and related web applications;
- Enterprise geodatabases in respect to editing in a
versioned environment;
Python scripting and advanced modelling techniques; and - FME and data conversion techniques.
Other Information
Valid full privilege Class 5 BC Drivers’ License (or out of province equivalent) required. Please see the job description for additional information.
This regular, full-time position offers an hourly wage starting at $33.54, and an excellent benefits and
