As the GIS Analyst for BCTS you manage and conduct advanced spatial analysis for use in resource management planning and decision making processes.  Your advanced skill set and knowledge of GIS as it relates to the natural resource sector will be relied upon throughout the entire business cycle – from strategic level planning, operational planning and stand level operations.

The GIS Analyst manages the GIS needs including spatial and attribute data management, template production and maintenance, and the establishment of best management practices required to maintain a high degree of data integrity.  The analyst supports forest management planning activities by performing advanced spatial and statistical analysis requiring attention to detail with potentially significant consequences.
 
Utilizing knowledge gained from past experience you perform complex spatial analysis used to help guide statutory decision makers, and support the development of systems and tools that facilitate effective reporting of data.  You develop and maintain databases and ensure security, integrity, currency and compatibility through the development of efficient quality assurance processes.

An effective communicator and leader, you provide advice and guidance to staff, agencies and external clients, and effectively manage projects in a collaborative manner. You have a proven track record of clearly establishing priorities, identifying resource requirements and an ability to manage complex issues and projects to meet timelines and business objectives.

Job Qualifications

To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:

  • Diploma or Degree in Geographic Information Systems from a recognized technical school or university or a diploma or degree in a natural resources management related field and three years related and current (gained within the last three years) experience; or the equivalent combination of training and experience such as five years related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using multiple geographic information systems, applications and relational database management systems.

  • Demonstrated experience creating a variety of digital, graphical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic maps, terrain model and associated descriptive statistics and tables.

  • Demonstrated project management and administration experience including overseeing contracts.

  • Preference may be given to those applicants with previous employment in the natural resource sector conducting advanced GIS functions.
