The Lambton Area Water Supply System (LAWSS) is jointly owned by the City of Sarnia, Township of St. Clair, Town of Plympton-Wyoming, Township of Warwick, Village of Point Edward and Municipality of Lambton Shores. LAWSS is governed by a Joint Board of Management which consists of political representatives from each owner community. The Ontario Clean Water Agency operates and maintains the LAWSS.
LAWSS includes a direct filtration water treatment plant (WTP) located at the mouth of the St. Clair River that supplies potable water to approximately 100,000 users in Lambton County. LAWSS also includes about 250km of watermain of various sizes and materials, three standpipes, one elevated tower and two booster stations.
Position Overview
Reporting to the LAWSS General Manager, the GIS Summer Student will provide services such as:
• Updating the Lambton Area Water Supply GIS system by: scanning and organizing documents, adding and creating new layers within the system, carrying out field inventory of infrastructure, review and editing data,
• Assist with Planning related tasks including, but not limited to: Administrative Support, Filing and Posting of Notices, On-site Observation,
• Assist with updating the Asset Management program.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications
• A diploma in Geographic Information Systems is beneficial,
• Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS,
• Experience with utility (plan/profile) drawings,
• A valid Ontario driver’s license (Class G) with a clean abstract is required,
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age,
• Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,
• Legally entitled to work in Canada,
• Will not have another full-time job.
