JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
* Performs a variety of complex technical support functions related to the survey, location, construction and tenure/rights acquisition of civil and structural components of generation, transmission and station projects by studying and interpreting project requirements and coordinating basic format with requirements or other organizational groups in Hydro and external groups involved with the projects, adapting existing standards in order to prepare alternative design proposals for projects involving cross discipline issues, performing a variety of complex calculations to determine topography, volume, profile and survey closures, designing and adjusting survey networks and resolving technical problems encountered in the field.
* Provides technical advice, guidance, direction to, and may perform all of the same duties as the Survey Technologist 1; may provide project leadership to survey teams, support or cross discipline technical staff providing assistance on assigned projects.
* Prepares feasibility or special studies and related reports such as proposals and cost estimates for client groups.
* Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Job Qualifications
* Completion of a Diploma of Technology in Survey and Mapping from an Institute of Technology or equivalent.
* 4 years experience as a Survey Technologist 1 that includes a demonstrated and practical knowledge of applied survey methodology and ability to carry out detailed and involved survey projects that includes studying and participating in selecting project sites and routes and in expediting/controlling project resources.
* Must hold a valid BC Driver's Licence.

* Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be required as a pre-condition to employment.
* This role is primarily office based and focused on drafting.
Desired Technical Skills & Experience:
* Complete understanding of regulations, statutes and land title systems governing legal surveys in British Columbia and Canada Lands jurisdictions.
* Complete understanding of drafting requirements and ability to take legal survey plans to submission ready stage for BCLS review.
* Complete understanding of CAD drafting tools required to prepare and deliver as-built, construction, engineering design sketch plans and reporting.
* Complete understanding of error sources in survey measurements and how to mitigate them.
* Good understanding of data processing for conventional, GPS and 3D laser scanning survey data using industry standard processing software.
* Good understanding of the various coordinate systems and vertical datums in use in BC.
* Good understanding of Least Squares analysis principles and software.
* Good understanding of industry standard safety practices.
* Experience with point cloud data extraction software and methods.
* Ability to prepare and interpret field survey records and follow standardized field, office and record keeping practices.
* Ability to train and oversee the work of others, particularly in drafting and data processing.
* Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and stay organized while meeting deadlines.
* Must possess excellent written, verbal communications skills and be comfortable working directly with internal and external stakeholders
* Motivated and able to work both independently and with a team of technical and professional colleagues remotely through on-line platforms such as Skype and Microsoft Teams.
* Must hold a valid BC Driver's Licence.
* Working knowledge of GIS systems.
* Experience with Lidar data, integration, and extraction.
* Experience with UAV and ROV field and office practices
* Experience with point cloud data and modeling.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required:
* Good working knowledge of the principles and procedures of all methods of field surveying.
* Good analytical skills.
* Ability to perform high level mathematics (algebra, geometry, plane/spherical trigonometry and statistics).
* Ability to train, assign work to and oversee the work of others.
* Ability to operate, calibrate and perform basic maintenance on a variety of survey instruments including hydrographic equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret legal and engineering drawings, maps and aerial photographs.

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
