Job Description
Pope & Talbot Inc., a Portland-based Pulp and Wood Products company, is currently recruiting a temporary GIS Technician contract at the Boundary Timber Office in Midway, BC.
The GIS Technician reports directly to the Forestry Administrative Coordinator and is responsible for a wide range of technical duties relating to spatial and attribute data management, as well as the production of operational maps.
Job Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
• completion of an Advanced Diploma in GIS from a recognized post secondary institution and work experience in the forest industry
• proficiency editing ArcSDE geodatabases in ArcGIS Desktop 9.0, and a good understanding of conversion between various spatial data formats is essential
• excellent written and oral communication skills
• demonstrated ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressure
• ability to be productive while working independently under minimum supervision
• experience using Genus Resources (Block, Silviculture and Road modules), as well as Genus GEO 4.1.0 (layer manager, environment manager, block and road editing, as well as map template production) would be preferred.
Other Information
This temporary contract commences October 2005 and ends November 2006, however there is a possibility that the contract may be extended if workload increases sufficiently during the year.
