We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of IT Administrator. This is a contract position, currently budgeted at 6 months. This position is based in the Ottawa, Ontario office.
The IT Administrator role is to improve and support the existing network infrastructure as well as provide technical assistance, direction and training to the user base related to the desktop and systems environment.
Job Duties:
• Support communication technology including local area networks, Intranet and Internet;
• Support desktop operating systems and applications
• Support and ensure the integrity of the network infrastructure: server computers, print servers, database servers and data storage facilities, WAN;
• Support and maintain the disaster recovery processes for operating systems, databases, networks, servers and software applications;
• Support and maintain Linux and Microsoft servers
• Provide on-call technical support;
• Help create and follow policies and procedures;
• Administer and maintain Windows Active Directory Network Infrastructure;
• Maintain network security by monitoring for intrusions, providing virus protection defenses and securing all servers from unauthorized use.
Job Qualifications
The IT Administrator must have Domain Knowledge in 3 or more of the following IT disciplines and is expected to lead level 1 Network Administrators:
• Network Security (Intrusion detection, Firewalls)
• Archive and Storage Technology (NetAPP, Disk Extender, BakBone)
• Windows Networking (2000-2003)
• Windows Desktop Support
• Linux-Solaris Servers and systems (Must)
• TCP/IP Networking (Must)
• Server Hardware (IBM eSeries, IBM Blade Centers)
• Exchange Mail
• Oracle 9i, MS SQL and/or MySQL Database
• Windows 2000-2003 Network Infrastructure and Active Directory
• IIS 5-6 with .NET
• LOB Applications (MS Great Plains, ArcGIS, MATLAB)
Requirements:
• BSc or BSEE, Bachelor's or technical college diploma in IT or a closely related field and/or a Certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer MCSE 2000-2003
• 1 year hands on IT experience in a support role (preferred)
• A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; routing, client/server applications, the design and consistent network-wide file system layouts
• Able to install and configure operating systems and applications software
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to users, management and fellow IT team members
• Able to install and configure operating systems and applications software
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Able to work under pressure with maintaining a positive can-do attitude
• Customer service experience in a retail environment (preferred)
