Job Description
Key Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Marine Products, you will be responsible for driving the development of new products in the Marine applications area. You will lead a small team assigned on project basis and you will be directly involved in systems engineering functions in the analysis of complex system design, development, planning, integration of new capabilities with existing systems and implementation processes. You will assume the program leadership for time planning and cost estimates and be responsible to ensure that programs are carried out on budget and schedule. You will be responsible for managing and working on products in every stage of the product life cycle including direct hands on contribution to engineering tasks. You will be responsible for providing team guidance and systems expertise to subordinates assigned for specific tasks in accordance with established standards, practices and methodologies governing the system being supported. You will have a hands-on approach to product development and fill in various development roles as needed to meet on-time delivery. You will provide support to Sales and Marketing and work directly with the end users to ensure that their requirements are satisfied.
Main Responsibilities:
• Maintain, develop and define new and existing Marine navigation and positioning systems.
• Provide technical leadership for completion of programs within design, budget and scheduling limitations ensuring concepts and designs are cost effective to manufacture and compliant with customer requirements. Responsible for preparing project plan and validating cost estimates for team members.
• Performs hands on engineering tasks where appropriate. This will include implementation of new software and debugging of existing code. This will include contributing to efforts to build prototype hardware. This will include work on the documentation necessary to commercialize products.
• Works with Sales and Support on Marine product requirements analysis and product lifecycle monitoring.
• Interfaces with the client, contractors and others outside the company to obtain or provide program, technical and progress data.
• Interfaces with most internal departments involved in marketing, developing, manufacturing and after sales service of the product.
• Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored on an on-going basis in order to provide positive feedback on accomplishments and to ensure immediate action is taken to address shortfalls.
Job Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent, and
• 4-10 years (minimum) experience in complex technical program/project management along with 2 - 4 years supervisory experience.
• Competence in performing professional engineering assignments in support of system engineering efforts. Competence in software implementations.
• Experience with top-down system design methods and embedded real-time C/C++ software.
• Experience with system design for inertial sensors, integrated navigation systems, satellite and/or Marine positioning system is desirable
• Experience in Marine operations is desirable
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Skills in project planning and management, judgment, decision making, and problem solving.
• Knowledge of applicable programmatic/technical procedures and specifications; awareness of program contractual processes.
• Skills in computer programming, in particular C++
• Skills in effective leadership, innovation, analysis and communication.
