Job Description
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is seeking a creative team player with strong spatial analytical skills and a solid ecological background to join us as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist.
As a member of the Western Boreal Program team you will be responsible for designing and implementing GIS projects in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment to both internal and external clients. You will participate in partnership development activities, provide advanced technical and analytical services, and perform spatial analysis and GIS modeling within the context of boreal resource management.
Job Qualifications
You possess the following qualities to fulfill the requirements of this position:
• Critical thinking and ability to take the initiative in offering innovative analytical solutions that translate industry resource and ecological challenges into desired conservation delivery products.
• Strong leadership skills in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment with both internal and external clients.
• Familiarity with conservation planning and landscape spatial analysis at regional and local scales, and their application towards solution oriented conservation goals.
• Experience working and communicating with diverse groups of people in dynamic settings.
• Experience applying remote sensing and/or GIS skills to complex conservation planning topics.
• Strong data management skills and statistical analysis skills.
• Interest in conservation and a solid ecological/biological background of boreal ecosystems.
• High level of professionalism and ability to clearly communicate concepts and methods.
You have either a bachelor’s degree in GIS with 5+ years professional GIS experience in a renewable resource management setting, or a master’s degree in GIS, Geography, or other relevant natural science discipline. You have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, are able to work independently and as a member of a team, are able to multitask, set priorities and meet rigid deadlines. A valid Canadian driver’s licence is required for this position.
